Natural Skin Care With EPA

Incredible though it sounds, fish oil containing eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA, appears to slow down the ageing process and help us to look younger by protecting the skin and inhibiting the chemical processes that take place when our skin is exposed to damage-inducing stimuli, like the sun for example. Evidence suggests that aside from all the other documented health benefits of EPA, it can make our skin more resistant to sunburn, improve skin elasticity and tone and helps to prevent saggy skin and wrinkles from forming.

Most of us know that UV radiation from the sun is public enemy number one as far as the skin is concerned. Overexposure results in premature ageing and wrinkles as well as reduced immunity to disease, and possibly even skin cancer. When our skin is exposed to a lot of sunlight we produce abnormal elastin that causes the skin to stretch and collagen fibres begin to break down. In response to this we produce a large number of enzymes called metalloproteinases or MMPS. This would normally be a good thing as these enzymes try to repair the damage, but it is inefficient and over time, MMPS produced as a result of UV radiation actually results in a break down of collagen and finally wrinkles appear.

A study published in 2005 in the Journal for Lipid Research investigated the effect that EPA had on MMPS arising as a result of ultra violet radiation from the sun in human skin and found that EPA inhibited overproduction of MMPS and reduced the amount of damage to the skin. The researchers Kim et al concluded that EPA could possibly prevent as well as treat skin ageing. Then more recently in 2006, Drs Black and Rhodes found that EPA offers protection against sun-induced damage to skin cells by making the skin more resistant to the sun’s rays in the first place. Participants taking fish oil showed a higher “minimal erythemal dose”. This basically means that the lowest amount of radiation needed to produce erythema (an inflammatory effect on the skin or sunburn) was higher for those taking fish oil. These studies show that EPA not only protects the skin, it limits the damage too, but these are not the only benefits of EPA.

The properties of EPA

EPA is known to have powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic properties, both of which help to slow down and minimise the effects of

Anti Aging ~ The Biggest Cause Of Facial Wrinkles

Repeated, unconscious muscular contractions.

Our face is a very expressive place and there are many minute muscular contractions taking place all the time. However, with the increased levels of stress we experience in today’s fast-paced environment, we find that there are many unnecessary and unconscious contractions taking place.

Often we will be wearing a faint scowl with the corresponding creases between the eyebrows without even realising it. Squinting slightly also produces contractions which encourage the permanent development of those lines at the corners of our eyes and pursed lips do the same for lines around the mouth area.

We understand the value of relaxing the larger muscle groups of our body by either getting a massage, doing some yoga or having a relaxing evening with our close friends and a glass or two of wine, but do we ever consider how to relax our facial muscle groups?

Up until recently it hasn’t been possible to do this, but now with the development of Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 this has become an increasingly popular option. Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 works by reducing the reaction of cells to stress hormones, thereby relaxing muscles and allowing fewer wrinkles to be created by unconscious muscular contractions.

It’s important to note that it DOES NOT paralyse muscles in the same way that botox (a potent toxic poison) does. Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 is completely safe to use and is applied as a topical application (gel, sera, lotion, cream, etc).

This ingredient alone has been shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by an incredible 27% over a 30 day period. As a first step in countering the signs of aging it’s difficult to beat, and as part of an holistic approach it delivers very impressive results. Be sure to keep an eye open for this ingredient, you’re sure to be seeing more and more companies using this technology.

Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 is a unique new peptide that both reduces the degree of existing facial wrinkles and has been demonstrated effective against their development. Controlled studies have also demonstrated that facial wrinkle depth can be reduced, especially in the forehead and around the eyes, and that Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 can prevent apparent facial skin aging.

The Essence of Oils

We have all heard of bergamot, palmarosa and ylang ylang as these are essentials oils found in massage oils, candles and bath products in practically every gift store you visit. But have you actually stopped to think why they are used and what the benefits of these products actually are? Of course they smell great, otherwise we wouldn’t purchase them but many of the common essential oils which have been distilled from plants are known to provide many proven therapeutic benefits and are often overlooked.

Essential oils are absorbed through the skin and depending on which plant the oil originated from will determine what effect it has on you. Having a knowledge of some of the basic benefits of these oils will certainly aid your shopping trips as you will be more aware of which oils will create a calming effect or which oils are more likely to stimulate or rejuvenate you. You can then use this knowledge to your advantage and buy the products most likely to suit your needs.

Bergamot

Bergamot has a refreshing and relaxing fragrance. Its delicate, sweet aroma can also be used to freshen a room and its scent is often found in beauty products and perfumes. If you are experiencing any anxiety or tension, bergamot is ideal to be used in the bath or as a massage oil and it can also be used as a treatment for loss of appetite. The antiseptic qualities of bergamot also lends itself to the treatment of acne and oily skin.

Ylang Ylang

Ylang ylang is an exotic and sensual oil with a deeply relaxing fragrance. It has a balancing and calming effect and is ideal for use in a massage oil or soothing bath salts. It is good for both oily and dry skin and has a rejuvenating effect on skin and hair. Ylang ylang is a good essential oil to be used if you are suffering from any anxiety, depression or stress.

Clary Sage

Clary Sage has an inspiring nutty aroma that is both balancing and relaxing. It has antiseptic properties that are most beneficial for dry skin but unlike the other three essential oils mentioned above, its aroma can seem quite intoxicating so it should be used in small amounts. Clary Sage can be used for a wide variety of complaints including mild depression, sleeplessness, minor aches and pains, asthma, labour pains, stress, gas and coughs.

Get the Pregnancy Glow

How does pregnancy affect the skin? During pregnancy some women radiate the glow of pregnancy and their complexions even out. The reason for this is because of increased blood circulation and the existence of high levels of the pregnancy hormone oestrogen. A lucky few will continue to reap the benefits of improved skin even after the birth of their baby.

Other women aren’t so lucky and the added hormones in their blood stream can cause a myriad of skin problems. The pregnancy hormones racing through your body inevitably affect your skin, for some women this can mean problems with their complexion such as acne and chloasma or underlying conditions such as excema may be exacerbated. As your body begins to take on its new shape your skin is stretched and other parts are put under more pressure, problems such as stretchmarks, water retention, swelling, varicose veins, itchy skin and calf cramps may affect you. Pregnancy also makes its mark on your body with peculiar features such as the linea negra.

Suffering from skin problems can be stressful, and stress can make skin problems worse. You must keep in mind that these problems are pregnancy related only and will clear up as fast as they arrived once your pregnancy is over.

Always check the label of any product which you use on your skin during pregnancy, they should display a warning if they are not suitable for use during pregnancy. If you’re unsure, check with your midwife, GP or pharmacist.

Acne

Some women find that their pregnancy hormones relieve them of acne, for others their pregnancy results in overactive sebaceous glands. These produce sebum which becomes blocked in the pores and results in inflammation in the form of red pimples, common acne (acne vulgaris). Acne can affect the chest and back areas as well as the face.

During pregnancy avoid acne products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid which have been linked to some birth defects. Instead employ the tried and trested remedies of teenagers: drink plenty of water and keep your skin routine simple. There’s no need to overcomplicate things and risk an adverse reaction to a new product whilst your skin is so sensitive. Stick to a regular routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising and use an exfoliator twice a week to slough away the dead skin cells and freshen your pores. Tea tree oil and lavender oil are

Hyperacusis: A Hearing Impairment

Most people know of only one type of hearing impairment - deafness. Hearing no sound at all can be very difficult but looking at the opposite side of it, hearing too much may also prove to be as hard. Hyperacusis is defined as the intolerance to normal and everyday sounds.

To give you a concrete illustration of hyperacusis, take for example a glass being put down on top of a desk. To ordinary people, the sound produced by such an act is hardly noticeable. For someone who is suffering from hyperacusis, such sound may be described as loud, even disturbing.

Symptoms of hyperacusis include pain or pressure in the inner ear. Because of the added noise they hear, individuals with this ailment may find it difficult to adapt to the flow of everyday life and may be deemed as socially unfit.

When someone suffers from hyperacusis it would be likely that he or she would soon develop tinnitus. Tinnitus is an odd sensation in your ear that is coupled with a ringing or whistling sound. Phonophobia is also a disorder that is associated with this condition. This is characterized with the fear of exposure to sounds that may do damage to their hearing. In such situations, a person with hyperacusis may be under a lot of stress. This would be evident in how one performs in the workplace, at home and in social gatherings. Lack of sleep is also attributed with such stress.

Hyperacusis is said to be caused by a malfunction in the sound regulatory system of the brain. It can also be a result of a serious head injury, over fatigue or epilepsy. Disease such as Bell’s Palsy and Lyme disease is also related with such hearing impairment. Intake of synthetic drugs could also have some negative effects that can cause hyperacusis.

One popular treatment for hyperacusis is sound desensitization. In this procedure, a patient is exposed to pink noise (a term referred to a random noise with equal amount of energy in one octave) at a volume lower than one’s discomfort level. He would be subject to such process for about two hours everyday. Results will not be achieved in a snap of a finger, but with enough support from family and friends, one should be in the path of full recovery in about six months.

The Rash On My Skin Will Not Go Away They Tell Me That I Am Crazy

Envision a nightmare of horror, conspiracy, medical mystery, human suffering and yet being called crazy by your doctor or others. Imagine you might have Morgellons Disease.

People who suffer from Morgellons Disease will tell you it is as if “am insect is crawling under their skin”. They may have a number of symptoms but in most cases it boils down to unexplained skin rashes and eczemas and the appearance of fibers and granules coming out of their skin. Some have said that they have seen insects or some type of parasite emerging to fly away from under their skin. Often sufferers have had bouts of Lyme disease as well. Lyme disease is the most common tick borne disease in the United States whose incidence and reported incidence is rising alarmingly. Like Morgellons Disease Lyme disease was a poorly known or diagnosed disease. Suffers were often labeled by their doctors as suffering and imaginary diseases - they were at the least hypochondriacs and perhaps psychotic. Like Morgellons disease Lyme disease affects suffers with a myriad of symptoms - many of them similar to Morgellons including rashes, eczemas and neurological conditions. Unlike Morgellons disease Lyme disease is now recognized as a valid disease that can be identified through medical diagnostic skills and lab tests. It is now known and appreciated that early treatment of Lyme disease with antibiotics can result in an excellent treatment and prevention of many of the symptoms and complications resulting from untreated Lyme disease and that delayed or inadequate treatment may result in a condition for the poor patient which is disabling and may very difficult to treat. The same approach and understanding can not be said for Morgellons Disease sufferers.

The actual pathogen that is causing Morgellons disease is at the present unknown. It may be an old infection that has been around for eons. It may be a new type of infection that has come into play through evolution, international travel, the destruction of the Amazon and African rain forests or even outer space. It may be a new type of infection - a parasite, a worm, bacteria, a virus, a preon or something not even known yet. Nobody knows. Perhaps it is even transmitted in a latent fashion similar to mad cow disease.

The symptoms of patients presenting with Morgellons are varied and

Eczema and Me

Yes, I have a skin disorder akin to eczema, and this has helped me.

Be careful with the directions I am giving you. Be sure you use consistently and determine the correct amount of dosage for you. Also if any allergic symptoms arise stop immediately. Further if you are known to be allergic to any ingredients mentioned here do not take. If you start to see side effects or allergies using flaxseed oil, stop using it.

Mix in foods and beverages. Never use in heat or cooking.

Use flax seed oil. It can be used both internally and externally. Externally apply to a small one inch square area to be sure there is not allergic reaction. External application has helped some individuals. Always store your flaxseed oil in a refrigerator when not in use.

Internally, the body uses the flaxseed oil, but uses anti-oxidants to work with the oil. Therefore vitamins A, C, and E are needed by the body in conjunction with the flaxseed oil. You will therefore want to supplement the flaxseed oil with these three vitamins.

When beginning use a very low dose and gradually increase it, until results are seen or you reach the maximum suggested dose. Start with 25 mg of B, and gradually increase it to 100 mg in 25 mg stages.

The results may take up to a year. Others take 3 or 4 months and still others may see marked improvement in only a week. You should be consistent in the taking of the vitamins and flaxseed oil every day.

Begin with no more than half a tablespoon of flaxseed oil. gradually after a couple of weeks increase to a whole tablespoon, then every two weeks increase by half a tablespoon until if needed you are at 4 tablespoons a day. You will need to observe and experiment with the amounts.

After 6 months I began to show some improvements in my condition, so you may need to be patient. If the condition persists or gets worse you will want to stop treatment and see a dermatologist.

As with many medical disorders, some people respond and others do not. But, I am sharing with you what has reduced some of my skin disorders.

Get Rid Of Dark Circles and Look Younger

While inner beauty may essentially define a woman, obtaining external beauty is strongly desired by many women globally. What woman does not want to look her best?

Of course, we all want to look our best wherever we go, whatever we do. It is natural for you to enhance your beauty by adopting various beautification techniques.

Since the beginning of time, beauty has almost been synonymous with womanhood. Often one of the best compliments you can give a woman is to acknowledge her beauty.

Countless women enjoy warm and uplifting feelings when their beauty is recognized. This might lead us to wonder what really counts the most when enhancing a woman’s beauty.

There are a variety of answers to this question. But, in my opinion, a woman’s beauty is determined by her eyes. Beautiful eyes speak for themselves and can be mesmerizing. I could go on and on describing the power of beautiful eyes.

When you realize that your eyes are blessed with such power, then it is in your best interest to protect them. However, eyes face several problems including the common emergence of dark circles under the eyes.

Dark circles refer to the shadows under your eyes that are caused by a variety of factors:

* There is a natural fat pad under the eye that begins to lose shape as you age. This process causes shadows under the eyes.

* Sometimes, these dark circles are just a reflection of the blood vessels and capillaries that are present in large numbers in the area under your eyes.

* Often, the shape of your face and features seem to make these dark circles appear prominent. For example, if you have prominent or protruding cheek bones and deep-set eyes, the dark circles under your eyes are more visible.

* Some people might have attacks of allergies, sinus problems, and, more serious, leaking capillaries that will make dark circles more prominent.

* The medical reasons for dark circles under your eyes are poor diet, lack sleep, and poor or irregular blood circulation.

Dark circles do not need to be a problem. There are a number of promising treatments to help deal with dark circles under your eyes. Don’t lose faith. Remember, there are many other women worldwide who experience the same problems.

Most importantly, there is certainly hope for you in the form of effective solutions that presently exist for dark
